Values in action scenarios

Unit 5 · Lesson 1 Scenario Pack

Values in Action Scenarios

Apply worldview values to real decisions and identify what respectful action looks like.

How to use

  1. Choose one scenario.
  2. Identify values at stake (relationality, reciprocity, kaitiakitanga, whakapapa, etc.).
  3. Decide on a response and explain why it aligns with those values.

Scenario 1: River Protection

A council proposes a new water extraction permit. Local iwi say the river is a living ancestor and needs time to recover.

Scenario 2: Museum Display

A museum wants to display taonga gifted decades ago. Descendants request that some items be returned or displayed with new protocols.

Scenario 3: School Sports Branding

A school team wants to use Indigenous designs for uniforms. Students are excited, but no iwi/hapū have been consulted.

Scenario 4: Climate Adaptation Project

A climate grant is available. The project team must decide whether to use Indigenous ecological knowledge or a standard engineering solution.
